'Tis the Season: March

March, the only month that gives a command. March! I know the traditional month for making resolutions is January, but I find March to be a much more practical time. It’s still early in the year, but close enough to Spring to start seeing the (sun) light at the end of the (cold, dark) tunnel. I’ve discovered that when I make my goals for the year in March, I’m much more likely to see them through. I’ve shared some of them below, March on!

1. Start a blog. Even though I got a head start on this one, my goal for the year is to cultivate my little piece of the web and market myself to reach a wider audience.

2. Grow more vegetables. Last summer we planted vegetables for the first time. I can’t even describe how awesome you feel being able to walk outside, grab some veggies, and cook them up for dinner. Actually I can: you feel like a WIZARD! You get to look at your dinner and scream “I MADE THIS STUFF APPEAR OUT OF THE DIRT!” (although I wouldn't recommend doing this if you have guests over). This year I want to add more variety to our garden and plant things I’ve never had before.

3. Make the perfect loaf of bread. Growing up my dad made loaves each week and it ruined me for the store-bought variety. The only problem with inheriting a love for great bread, is that I didn’t inherit the bread-making skills as well. I need to remedy that!

4. Explore my city. Last May I moved to a neighborhood on the outskirts Philadelphia, and I don’t feel like I’ve really gotten to know my city yet. This year I’d like to take the time to go into the city and just see what I find.

5. Run a half-marathon. My best friend Olivia ran the Philly half-marathon in November (and chronicled her experience here); it inspired me to want to take one on for myself at the end of this year.

6. Buy myself a new camera. I’ve always had an interest in photography, but I’ve never invested in the proper equipment or taken the time to learn techniques beyond point-and-click. I know that the camera doesn’t make the photographer, but I’m currently working with a camera phone and a 7 year-old basic digital camera. I think it’s time for an upgrade!

Does anyone else like making Spring resolutions as opposed to New Year’s? If so, share ‘em below!
